As more notebooks and handheld computers connect to wireless LANs for bandwidth-intensive applications, customers must find ways to wring every ounce of performance out of their Wi-Fi systems. This paper explains Frame Bursting, an extension of the 802.11 standard now deployed by WLAN vendors to drastically improve the overall performance of a wireless network. In addition to a technical overview of Frame Bursting, the paper discusses the benefits of using the standard-based enhancement in real-world environments, including mixed-mode networks comprising 802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11a technololgies, and networks utilizing wireless hardware from multiple vendors. | |
