| 2/28/08 - DigitalBridge Communications (DBC) announced the expansion of its high speed wireless Internet service, BridgeMAXX, to Hailey, Idaho. This is the third town in Idaho in which DBC has launched WiMAX service. DBC previously launched service in Rexburg, Idaho in June 2007 and Pocatello, Idaho in January 2008. In Hailey, service will reach more than 3,000 homes and businesses. Service is planned to expand into Sun Valley and Ketchum, Idaho in the coming months.
Kelley Dunne, CEO of DigitalBridge Communications, and City of Hailey Mayor Rick Davis officially launched service today with a "wire-cutting" ceremony and a demonstration at the Community Campus at 1050 Fox Acres Road in Hailey. Also speaking at the event was Jim Spinelli, Executive Director of the Hailey Chamber of Commerce. "The city of Hailey has a proud heritage of leading the way in Idaho, having the first electric power plant and the first telephone exchange in Idaho. Now we are among the first providers of WiMAX service -- not just in Idaho but in the United States," stated Mayor Davis. "We welcome DBC to Hailey, providing a new and exciting option for high speed Internet for the community," said Spinelli. "And it's great to have DBC forming partnerships with local businesses to distribute the service, as well as enabling potential new business growth." Selling under the product name BridgeMAXX, the new service features plug-and-surf technology, which allows customers to set up and begin using their WiMAX high speed Internet connection in a matter of minutes. For most residents, service can be accessed using a small portable modem that connects to the computer. The wireless high-speed Internet service uses radio frequencies to provide service instead of traditional coaxial cable, telephone wires or satellite dishes. WiMAX is a high-speed, long-range wireless Internet technology. BridgeMAXX service features extremely easy set up, value and portability, and offers plans ideal for the residence and small business. BridgeMAXX delivers download speeds of up to 3Mbps and upload speeds of up to 2Mbps, which is significantly faster than dial-up or satellite. Subscribers can get online anywhere in the BridgeMAXX service area just by taking their modem with them, breaking the traditional confines of wire-based high-speed Internet services. In June, 2007, DigitalBridge deployed the first commercial WiMAX network in the country in Rexburg, Idaho. "We are excited about launching services in Hailey. Our continued expansion in the Intermountain West region represents our continued commitment to provide reliable broadband services to the residents of Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming," said Dunne. "In under a year we have proven that we can deliver the fast, simple, portable, and affordable broadband services that customers want." The company recently announced that it secured $20 million in its Series B venture financing. Customers can sign up for BridgeMAXX online or over the phone. Also, because BridgeMAXX boasts such a simple set up, a customer can try it and take it home the same day by visiting an authorized retailer in the Hailey area: Creative Edge, 409 South Main, and Woodriver Electronics, Hailey's Radio Shack dealer, at 513 North Main in Hailey. DBC has plans to launch BridgeMAXX service in over 15 cities in early 2008, including Idaho Falls and Twin Falls, Idaho; Butte, Montana; and Jackson, Wyoming.
