Building on the success of the event in February 2007, MobileMonday Toronto will use the same proven format from last year's event. The session will include participation from last year's panel: Ted Anderson, Managing General Partner from Ventures West, Steven Bloom, Chief Financial Officer from Brightspark, Marc Faucher, Principal from Summerhill Venture Partners (formerly BCE Capital), and newcomer Martin Doane, Founding Partner of Ubequity Capital Partners. This year's Venture Capital Panel will be moderated by Peter Evans, Managing Partner from Riverdale Partners.

The panel will provide attendees with an opportunity for questions and answers and will also offer their insights and experiences on how to create a successful venture. Also, as a part of this session four budding mobile moguls from the Toronto area will be chosen from the selection pool to pitch the Venture Capital panel on the merits of their business or idea, and why they should receive funding. Attendees to the event will also have the opportunity to win passes for the "MaRS Experience! Tech 2008" to be held on March 19th.

"We had amazing feedback from the mobile community regarding last year's event and our March 10th session is highly anticipated and looks like it will be a packed session. We hope this event will lead to successful funding for the selected companies," said Jim Brown and Alexander S. Bosika, Co-founders of MobileMonday Toronto.

The VC panelists are excited as well.

Returning panelist Ted Anderson said, "There were some innovative companies at last year's event and we hope 2008 is just as exciting."

Moderating the panel will be Peter Evans, an advisor with the MaRS Venture Group and Founder of Riverdale Partners.

Ted Anderson - Managing General Partner, Ventures West

Ted Anderson joined Ventures West in 1996 and is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the firm. He is also involved with the firm's investment activities, with a focus on IT, telecommunications and semiconductors. Ted also represents Ventures West as the General Partner of the Eastern Technology Seed Investment Fund, a venture capital fund co-managed by Ventures West that was created in 1997 to provide seed stage financing for early stage technology projects in Eastern Canada. Ted is a veteran of the Canadian venture capital industry with over 20 years experience in private equity investment. Ted began his career in venture financing in 1982 with Royal Bank Venture Capital and moved to BG Acorn Capital Fund in 1985.

Ted currently serves as a Director of AudienceView Software, Fortiva Inc., and Fresco Microchip. He is a past President and a former director of the Canadian Venture Capital & Private Equity Association, as well as an instructor in the MBA program at the Schulich School of Business at York University. Ted holds a B.A. (Honours) in economics from the University of Toronto and an MBA from York University.

Steven Bloom - Chief Financial Officer, Brightspark

Steven Bloom is a C.A. and C.P.A. with over 10 years of experience in the technology industry. After spending several years at Ernst & Young, Steven participated in the growth of two separate technology start-ups in senior finance positions. Most recently, he served as Vice President, Finance with Descartes Systems Group Inc., one of Canada's leading public software companies and a specialist in e-business technologies, helping to take the company through its NASDAQ listing. Brightspark companies learn from Steven the complexities of full range corporate financing and how to effectively maximize the returns on their limited capital. He provides guidance about what it takes to financially manage a company from startup through to maturity. Steven is a graduate of the Richard Ivey School of Business, The University of Western Ontario.

Martin Doane - Founding Partner, Ubequity Capital Partners

Martin J. Doane, B.A., LL.B., is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario and Osgoode Hall Law School. He is a Founding Partner and the CEO of Ubequity, and brings with him 17 years' experience as a lawyer and close to two decades of activity in the corporate finance, M&A, financial services and venture capital fields. He has previously served as the Managing Director of another merchant bank, and in director and advisory capacities with a variety of private and public enterprises in the technology, financial services, media, natural resources and professional services areas.

Martin's legal and business activities have supplied him with a deep, global network of professionals, entrepreneurs, and financiers on which to draw for Ubequity's business. Since September 2005, Martin has steered one of Ubequity's major projects, Silverback Media plc. serving as the company's CEO, completing five acquisitions, raising millions of dollars in equity and debt financing, and taking the company public in the UK and Germany. Silverback is one of the world's largest, independent mobile marketing and advertising agencies, with almost 100 employees, and operations in Canada, the U.S., and France.

Marc Faucher - Principal from Summerhill Venture Partners (formerly BCE Capital)

Marc Faucher has a strong background in telecommunications and strategic marketing, having worked for a mobile service provider, network infrastructure provider and strategic consulting firm. In February 2003, Marc joined the Summerhill Venture Partners team from Bell Mobility where he was involved in making strategic equity investments. Prior to Bell Mobility, Marc was a Senior Consultant with the McKenna Group in Boston, a strategic consulting firm focused on companies operating within emerging technology markets. During his tenure, Marc advised early stage ventures on go-to-market strategies. Prior to McKenna, Marc was a product manager in the Wireless Networks Group at Ericsson. With Ericsson, Marc played a key role in deploying the first TDMA-based fully integrated dual-band wireless network in the world for Rogers AT&T.

Marc received a BASc in Engineering from the University of Waterloo (1995) and an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business (2000).

Peter Evans - Managing Partner, Riverdale Partners

Peter Evans brings over 15 years experience in software, Internet services, online media and telecommunications to Riverdale Partners. Before Riverdale Partners, Peter was Vice President of Marketing for PlateSpin, Inc (an Intel-64 Fund company), a developer of server infrastructure management software. Peter also served as Vice President, Marketing at FloNetwork Inc. (a leading direct marketing and email software/services ASP). While at FloNetwork, he built its North American marketing team and introduced a number of aggressive programs to drive the company's growth in the US market. The company went on to earn a Deloitte and Touche "Fast 500" (North American) ranking. The company was acquired by DoubleClick (NASDAQ:DLCK) in 2001.

Prior to FloNetwork, as Director of Marketing & Research at MediaLinx SympaticoTM (a leading Internet Service Provider and Portal), he founded the online media research practice and managed the Sympatico ISP/Portal brand at the national level for telco affiliates such as Bell Canada, NBTel (Now Aliant) and AGT (now Telus). In his eight years within the BCE organization he also held a variety of product management positions serving as Associate Director, Product Management for Bell Canada's AdvantageTM (Outbound) Business Long Distance services (a $700 million product portfolio). He has also held major accounts sales positions at Bell Canada and Call-Net Telecommunications focusing on telecom systems and voice/data networks sales.

Peter is a frequent keynote speaker and panelist at technology and marketing events. He has addressed conferences throughout North America and Europe such as COMDEX (Las Vegas), Internet World, the Software Industry & Information Association (SIIA), OCRI Zone 5 Forum (Ottawa), Boston Consulting Group E-Commerce Forum, the Association for Advancement of Relationship Marketing (AARM), and Direct Marketing Days (DMDNY) in New York. He has also guest lectured at Queen's University (MBA for Science & Technology program) and the Entrepreneurship 101 program at the MaRS Discovery District.

Peter currently sits on the Board of Directors of Sitebrand Inc. (an Ottawa based CRM software company) and the Toronto Venture Group. He has previously served on the Board of Advisors of XPLANE Corp., the world-renowned information design firm based in St.-Louis. Educated in Cognitive Psychology and Telecommunications Management at the University of Toronto and Ryerson Polytechnic University, Peter holds an MBA degree from Queen's University. He is currently completing the Certificate Program in Strategic Planning & Innovation at the M.I.T. Sloan School of Management.
